New TahitianEnglish Dictionary
The first ever complete English-Tahitian/Tahitian-English dictionary
has been published by the MA'OHI HERITAGE PRESS of Hawaii!

The author is Dr. Sven Wahlroos, also known in the islands as 'Taote Tivini'. He became fascinated with Polynesia as a young boy after having read a children's version of Nordoff and Hall's trilogy MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY. He decided then, not only to go to Tahiti, but to learn how to speak Tahitian beforehand! Dr. Wahlroos has visited all Polynesian island groups and has a deep knowledge of both their history and culture. In his opinion, there is no finer manifestation of human-kind than a Polynesian!

Thirty-seven years in the making, this dictionary is therefore, not only a work of love, but an important cultural legacy as well. To date, Dr. Wahlroos has refused all royalties or other financial gains derived from this dictionary. All proceeds will go towards the cost of future printings and, if at all possible, towards lowering the book price for Tahitian churches (steadfast guardians of the Tahitian language) and Tahitian cultural organizations.

The author was a long-time Member and Past Director of the Adventurer's Club of Los Angeles and had been designated a Distinguishes Member by the Friends of Tahiti. He was an Emeritus Trustee of the National Finlandia Foundation and was knighted by the President of Finland with the title of Knight, First Class, of the Order of the Lion of Finland. Now deceased, he has left this monumental work as his living legacy. The dictionary is now out of print, and we have been fortunate to be able to obtain all of the last few remaining copies from his estate.
